City Snowstorm is an original digital collage, created through a series of layers, using photographic, hand drawn and fractal images with original textures and colors. The layers are manipulated individually to achieve the desired effect. I only occasionally use filters in my work. Some pieces may have as many as one hundred layers. This image was created in honor of my NY Times reporter friend, Abby Ellin.
I have been some sort of artist since I could wield a crayon as a precocious tyke. I've worked for 50 years as a graphic and fine artist, but I fell in love with digital art when I had the first of three thumb joint replacement surgeries. With my hands in casts for three summers in a row, the urge for creative expression overpowered. I quickly discovered that I could push the mouse around and click without much pain, and digital collage emerged.
